Sadly our week in Sardinia went far too quickly and our second annual Sardinia Training camp is once again in the history books. This year we added several new comers to the group which was a nice addition to the similar faces of last year.
We moved the camp to a new hotel, the Tanka Village this year which was a really great move because it allowed us access to a 50m pool, a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner (maybe that wasn't such a good thing?) and all the other facilities the resort had to offer.
Amanda and I once again competed in the Sardinia Triathlon (now known as the Global 11 Sardinia triathlon) and I managed to get myself lost in the countryside by going off course on the bike while Amanda still sufering the affects of Ironman Brazil (6 days earlier), a recent long haul flight and a bit of Jetlag made it around in 5th place (a pay day!) It really is one of the most stunning triathlon courses in the world, riding along the Costa Rei coastline with spectacular views around every corner.
Some of the highlights of the camp was our Monday morning ride of 120km to the "Grand Canyon" of Sardinia along Rio Cannas. The 15km climb was absolutely stunning and we really enjoyed exploring a new ride from last years camp.
All the athletes enjoyed our swim technique sessions in the Tanka pool but the real highlight was no doubt the body surfing lessons I gave them in the Mediterranean Sea. Even though the waves were small the guys really lapped it up and it was a struggle to get them out of the water.
Thanks to all the athletes for a great week in one of the most beautiful places in all of the world! Guiseppe, Marchello, Mimo, Fabio, Titsiano, Manuelle, Carlo, Roberto, Massimo, Stefano and Antonio and Daniele and Elisa for the organization. See you in 2012!
