We woke up early this morning to get down to the pier before the masses. Beaker (my training Bitch) Crawford and I were the first into the glassy ocean. It was a little erie for the first 10-15 minutes before the sun fully broke over Mauna Loa and the depths below lit up. The visibility is awesome this year and there has been plenty of fish and even some dolphin sightings. The ocean is warm and it's been nice and smooth (if you get out before 9am).
After our morning swim and quick catch up with the Lieto boys at the pier we chugged down a quick latte from Lava Java and hit the Queen K. Riding out to the airport we were talking about "how calm it was today" and "It's not as windy as the last few days" ... haha. So by the time we pass the Four Seasons resort (about 15 miles out) all talk has stopped and we are cursing the monster headwind. Funny how the Island can just throw curve balls like that!
Local legend massage therapist and moto pacer to the starts (Macca, Crowie, Lieto to name a few) Gary was trading his Harley for a Cervelo and rode with us for a bit.
There were plenty of friendly faces out there and we caught up with a bunch of Aussies on the way home as we spun out our 54/11 gears. Love a tailwind!
Amanda is out for a big day. She has a 4 hour ride and a 1.5 hour run off the bike planned. No doubt she is going to come stumbling through the door any minute ... I better get her some lunch ready and a big protein shake (I don't know how many times I have come home to her amazing lunches)
